A Short History Of The Vibrator
Believe it or not the vibrator did not begin it's long and illustrious journey as a pleasure device, rather is was invented after a doctor became tired and formed carpal tunnel syndrome from performing too many pelvic floor massages to treat women for "hysteria". Yes my friends, that is how the electric vibrator came to be. The ideas as that by essentially giving a women an orgasm cured their ailments. This was in the mid 1800's.
By the 1920 the styles of vibes had evolved and they were starting to appear in porn movies. This created a dilemma, that no longer could womens pretend they were buying them to only massage their scalp or feet, or...treat hysteria.
They remained taboo all the way up to the 1970's where feminists and the famous book, "The Joy Of Sex" brought the vibrator in the main stream. The rest they say, is history. Today, it is estimated that 50% of women aged 20 and older have used a vibrator more than once.
These days the vibrator and sex toy market is huge and ever growing, and is certainly not taboo....anymore.
Types Of Vibrators
There a many styles, types, and designs of vibrators, each with their own purpose and different reasons for use.
Highly versatile, bullets are useful for exploring the entire body, but their main use for clitoral stimulation. They are especially beneficial for women who struggle to climax via penetration, and can be used as an alternative, or as an aid during sex. Examples of popular bullet vibrators include the Bnaughty Deluxe and the JimmyJane Intro 1.
Traditional VibratorsThis type of vibe is how many people picture them. Hard plastic tubes or cylinders that take AA batteries and have a knob or switch at the bottom to turn on the device. They can be used internally or externally, and alone or with a partner. While the design of vibes has come along way since these styles were first created, they still are favored by many.
Realistic Human Type Vibrators
Again, these vibes are pretty well how you would picture them.....a penis shaped phallace usually made from safe silicone, jelly, or rubber. They can be incredibly detailed with veins and ribbing of a penis. They normally contain internal batteries and also can have a number of different vibration levels.
Rabbit vibes have been around for a while but every year there are new releases with new feature and functions. Their main purpose is to stimulate both internally and the clitoris at the same time. The shaft normally rotates and is lined with massage beads. The term "rabbit" comes from the small rabbit ears that vibrate and massage the clitoris. These include the JimmyJane Iconic Rabbit 2 and the B Swish Bewild Classic Bunny.
Again, as the name suggests, the main purpose of these vibes is to stimulate your g-spot. Normally they are a little harder and more robust made with soft silicone or rubbers. The hooked or curved ends (some adjustable) help target the g spot.
G-spot vibrators were designed to locate and stimulate your G-spot. Some G-spot vibrators are hard and rigid; some are soft and flexible. G-spot vibrators feature a curved or hooked head for targeted stimulation. Check out the Lelo Gigi G-Spot Vibrator and the We Vibe Syc.
Again, no surprise here. Designed specifically for clitoral stimulation, the little beauties are shaped conveniently to fir over the pubic bone and some are wearable. A new style recently release is the panty vibrator which has gained some fame on Youtube. Example are the JimmyJane Ascend 1 or the LELO Alia.
While massage wands properly have their own category all together, these are also classed as vibrators due to their sheer versatility in what they can accomplish. Wands became famous not the least due to the famous Hitachi Magic Wand, that has been pleasuring around the globe for over 30 years. They are still made, but now owned by Vibratex. If you're not familiar, we have them in stock here.
